We Believe

Despite the often-polarized nature of American politics, there are several key issues on which a majority of Americans tend to agree. While there is certainly diversity of opinion on many political issues, these examples illustrate that there are areas where Americans can find common ground.

Bipartisanship

Healthcare Costs

Around America’s kitchen tables, those are hardly the only health topics voters want to hear about in the 2024 campaigns. A new KFF tracking poll shows that health care tops the list of basic expenses Americans worry about — more than gas, food, and rent. Nearly 3 in 4 adults — and majorities of both parties — say they’re concerned about paying for unexpected medical bills and other health costs.

We Agree:

Women’s Health

Most Americans believe abortion should be legal to some degree, particularly in the first trimester. The majority also disagree with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, thus returning discretion over the legality of abortion to the states. At the same time, majorities think second- and third-trimester abortions should generally not be legal.

Broad Views on the Legality of abortion

According to Gallup's May 2023 update on Americans' abortion views, 34% believe abortion should be legal "under any circumstances," 51% say it should be legal “only under certain circumstances,” and 13% say it should be illegal in all circumstances.
